Meet our new Principal
read moreGet to know our new Principal, Mrs. Kauten! Here are a few questions we asked her and her answers!
What subjects/classes do you teach or what position do you hold? And how many years have you taught? This is my 15th year in education. I taught for 13 years at Washington Elementary in Ellis, Kansas. There I taught 2 years of 3rd grade, 5 years of 4th-6th grade math, and 5 years of 4th-6th grade Language Arts. During my time in Ellis, I was also a junior high volleyball coach, Scholar's Bowl coach, Forensics coach, and STUCO sponsor. I was a Principal in Russell at Bickerdyke Elementary. This year, I am the PreK-12th grade Principal in Natoma.
Where did you go to college? I earned my undergraduate from Fort Hays State University, along with my Masters in Instructional Technology and Building Leadership. Roll Tigers!
What inspired you to be in the education field? I love learning and I love sharing that passion with others. What drives me the most is helping others find their own version of success.
What made you choose Natoma? I was raised in a small town. Small town living will always have my heart.
What is your hometown? I grew up in Collyer, Kansas.
Was being in education always your passion? As a girl I often played "school" and was the teacher. During high school, I was sure that I would end up in the medical field. However, my heart led me back to learning and education.
What was your first impression of Natoma? Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.
What was your favorite subject in school? Math
What is your ideal age group to teach? I like them all!
What was your initial reaction to such small class sizes? It provides more opportunities for individualized learning.
Welcome to Natoma, Mrs. Kauten!!
