Natoma FFA Continues Success at District CDEs
The Natoma FFA has enjoyed a successful Fall in district Career Development Events. After a 3rd & a 4th place team finish at District & Area Land & Homesite competitions in September, members went right back to work, preparing for five events: Milk Quality & Products, Food Science, Dairy Cattle Judging, Job Interview, and Agriculture Sales.
At 5:30am on Wednesday, October 21st, nine members, boarded the bus bound for Bird City, KS. By the end of the day, the Natoma FFA had brought home two plaques and six individual medals. The first contest of the day was Dairy Cattle Judging. The team took 3rd out of 17 teams. Kaylee Anglin placed 3rd high Sr. individual out of 92 contestants. Erika George, Austin Murphy, and Sonny Gridley also competed.
Food Science and Milk Q & P ran simultaneously after lunch. Grady Dickerson took 1st overall in Food Science out of 85 competitors in the Sr. division. Sarah Pelton & James Maupin took 18th & 19th, respectively. Natoma FFA took 4th out of 16 teams in this event. Natoma’s best finish of the day came in the Milk Quality & Products CDE, which has a high degree of difficulty. The team took 2nd out of 9 teams. Individual placings were as follows: Grady Dickerson 4th, Sarah Pelton 5th, Dylan Pruter 9th, James Maupin 10th, and Sonny Gridley 20th. Natoma was the only chapter to place in the top 5 at all 3 of the day’s events.
On November 12th, Natoma FFA traveled to Norton for Job Interview & Ag Sales. Members gained valuable career experience in these contests as they were evaluated by industry professionals on their interview and sales abilities. Participating members were: Sarah Pelton, who took 4th out of 60 contestants in Job Interview, Sonny Gridley, who took 11th at Ag Sales, Dylan Pruter, Shayla Griffin, Kaylee Anglin, Austin Murphy, Erika George, and James Maupin.
