Seniors tour Capitol and Brown vs Board of Education Museum
The Natoma High School Seniors took a Government Class trip to Topeka, Kansas on April 11, 2018. In the morning, students visited the Brown v Board of Education Museum. The students enjoyed a tour from the museum ranger who discussed segregation in America during the Jim Crow Era and the effects of the Brown Case. After several hours at the museum it was time for lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings. We would like to thank the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 109 who sponsored lunch for the students. After a tasty lunch, we took two tours at the Kansas State Capitol. On the first tour, students viewed the beautiful paintings, architecture, library, both house chambers, and the ceremonial governor's office. After 13 years, the Kansas State Capitol renovations were finally completed in 2014 at cost of 325 million dollars. On the second tour, students climbed all 258 stairs to the top of the capitol building where they had a 360 view of the the city. Our seniors took advantage of a great opportunity to learn more about the history of Kansas,Brown v Board of Education Supreme Court Case, and our Kansas Government.
