Get to know Corinne Masters

We have asked our new staff members some questions to get to know a little more about them.

1. What subjects/classes do you teach? And how many years have you taught?
I'm teaching sixth grade ELA and science as well as seventh grade social studies.  I have not
taught for the last two years because I retired, but I'm happy and excited to be back.  This is my
thirty-third year of teaching, thirty-one of which have been in USD 399.

2. Where did you go to college?
I graduated from FHSU, but I've taken on- and off-campus courses from many universities.

3. What inspired you to teach? My inspiration may have been my parents, who valued education.  My mom was a teacher and
my dad was a school board member for many years.

4. What made you choose Natoma?
The first two years I taught, I lived north of Natoma and commuted.  When the Natoma
superintendent called and asked if id teach math in Paradise, I thought it was a wonderful
opportunity to teach closer to home.

5. What is your hometown?
I consider Waldo to be my hometown, but I grew up in the country north of Russell.

6. Was teaching always your passion?
My first passion was horses.  Teaching became my career interest early in high school.  I think it
became my passion after I had my first students and classroom.

7. What was your first impression of Natoma?
My first impression was when I was in seventh grade and the Paradise-Waldo and Natoma
districts unified.  I'll just say that my first impressions weren't exactly positive.

8. What was your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject overall was math.  In high school it was probably home economics (FACS).

9. What is your ideal age group to teach?
I really like fifth and sixth grades, but probably because that's where I've spent most of my
teaching years.  I've taught fifth graders through juniors and enjoyed all of those age groups.  .

10. Have you worked at other schools in the past?
I started teaching at Gorham Community Junior-Senior High.  It was the first two years of their
community school and I'm still in awe of how the community pulled together and supported the
school.  It was a wonderful place to start my career.

11. What was your initial reaction to such small class sizes?
I was teaching here as the class sizes decreased, so it was a gradual change for me rather than
an initial surprise.

12. What is your favorite sport/extracurricular activity?
Basketball is my favorite sport.

13. What is your favorite type of music?
I like many types of music, but my favorites are traditional and contemporary Christian.
