Well Done to the VFW and Patriot's Pen Winners

On February 7, Kyla Erickson (7), Lucy Alexander (8), Lynae Paget (9), and MaKayla Murphy (11) and their families attended the annual VFW Recognition Dinner at the Russell VFW where each of them was honored for their success in competing in the VFW scholarship programs.
At the junior high level, Kyla Erickson received 3rd place in the Patriot’s Pen Contest, while Lucy Alexander received 1st place. In addition, Lucy Alexander also received 1st place in the District and 1st place in Kansas. Her essay is currently competing nationally!
At the high school level, MaKayla Murphy received 3rd place in the Voice of Democracy contest while Lynae Paget received 1st place. Furthermore, Lynae Paget’s essay went on to receive 1st place in the District. The second-place winners for both the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy contests were from Russell.
All the winners were treated to a dinner, given certificates and medals, and financial awards. Congratulations! Well done!
